500h Agriculture and Science - 1920

The post office released the 500h stamp on August 24, 1920 using a modified design [click here for details]. In all, it printed about 12,120,000 stamps. After authorities withdrew these stamps on January 30, 1923, they put many to other use.

In January of 1923, the post office overprinted and surcharged 8,200,000 for use as provisional postage due stamps. In the end, the post office remaindered about 3,920,000 stamps and continued to sell these withdrawn stamps at the philatelic window until January of 1935.
