The Typographic Stamps of Czechoslovakia

News

August 14, 2008. Added a new subsection of the 1923 200h Type III Agriculture and Science Issue: Research. Visitors are invited to participate in identifying die, plate, and printing variations for this denomination of the issue. This new section in under construction.

July 23, 2008. Added pass-through links to online copies of The Specialist.

July 19, 2008. The 21st century indices to The Czechoslovak Specialist are complete (after a fashion). They provide access for issues published 2000-2007. Much more work needs to be done to smooth out the rough edges. There are two indices, an Author/Subject Index and a POFIS Catalog Number Index

July 17, 2008. Technical reasons forced the removal of links from the index to the referenced copy of The Specialist. However, we have added a new index based upon POFIS catalog numbers. Enjoy.

July 13, 2008. As an experiment, Knihtisk has linked the citations in the 21st century author and subject indices to the actual issues of The Specialist referenced. Try it out and report your thoughts. The unlinked author and subject indices are still available.

As a second task, the links to the Czech Republic and the Slovakian official postal services sites were changed once again. These seem to change every so often, so if the Official Links page does not work, let me know.

July 12, 2008. Knihtisk has added his personal index to the 21st century issues of The Czechoslovak Specialist to the Library. Right now, only 2000-2004 have been indexed. Watch this news page for updates.

July 7, 2008. A computer-searchable copy of the Post Office names that fell under the management of the new Czechoslovak Republic, translated from the Monografie Dil I, is available for users in the Library.

June 7, 2008. Lightening does strike twice. In 2002, your webmaster discovered two gutters, later called the Nachod Gutters. These gutters were stolen from the mail. Thanks to Phil Melamed, who spotted two blocks of these gutters -- six in all -- Knihtisk has replaced these lost rarities.

May 3, 2008. Many thanks to Miroslav Vrzala, who supplied Knihtisk with scans of the reversed plate and year designations for the 60h, with examples for the Second and Third Matrices of the 1Kc, and with copies of the unbroken stress bars of the 1kc, the pages for the 1928 Postage Due Issue are far more complete.

April 26, 2008. An image of 100h Types III and II connected has been added to the Agriculture and Science pages.

March 20, 2008. The Agriculture and Science pages have been completed. The 1923 issue, especially in terms of its dies, are fully presented. The 200h Type III should be especially interesting to the specialist.

February 24, 2008. We believe that all of the broken links and other problems with the corrected website have now been fixed. Again, please contact us if you find anything wrong at all. The next project, we hope, will be to activate the Science and Agriculture section of the site.

January 10, 2008. Every page on the Knihtisk website has been reloaded. Some minor corrections were made, but please contact us if you find any errors in the web pages.

A new site-wide section has been added to the website: Library. Its link is found at the upper right of every page on the website. Work has just begun on the Library, so expect new documents to show up soon.

December 5, 2007. Some of the 1928 Postage Due issue pages are now available. They are very much a work in progress, so bear with your webmaster while things get sorted out. I have found this series most interesting, and want to thank Rich Palaschak for the many images he has sent to the website.

November 28, 2007. The backup files for the Knihtisk Website were corrupted during the move from Virginia to Arizona, so the work of the moment is to create a new and clean backup. Then, new work on the 1928 Postage Due issue will appear on the site.

September 8, 2007. Your Knihtisk editor has left Virginia and is now living in Arizona with family. Expect work to resume sometime this winter, but for now, all of the Knihtisk material is in storage. Please be patient.

March 16, 2007. New pages, although incomplete, for the Masaryk 1920 Issue, The Chainbreaker, and the 1919 Express Stamp Issue have been opened. Expect changes to these pages as more material for these issues is posted.

January 1, 2007. Today, the original Knihtisk website has been replaced by a newer version. This new Knihtisk website will take some time to complete but promises to serve better the needs of the collectors and students of the typographic stamps of Czechoslovakia.

The entire site has been reorganized into sections dealing with each of the issues. Also, because many visitors complained about the size of the images in the old site, every image in the new site -- more than 7,000 of them -- has been individually massaged into a consistent size and lighter weight. That task alone has required months of work. Your patience while the full site is brought online will be greatly appreciated, as will any feedback you may want to provide. Encouragement and thoughtful criticism make the site better for all of us.
