T. G. Masaryk 1920: 500 and 1000
To produce the 500h and 1000h denominations, the Czech Graphics Union used a modification of the typographic printing technique. From a steel engraving prepared by the eminent Czech engraver Eduard Karel, ten rows of ten stamps produced by electroplating were arranged to form a single printing plate for each of these denominations.
Švabinský's signature appears on the lower left margin of the stamp and Karel's on the lower right.
Both the paper and its preparation were unique in Czech stamp production. A chalk paper was lithographed to put a colored undercoating on the face of the stamps. Because this process required the paper to be dipped in water, it lost its characteristic sheen.
