The ten flaws designated A through J in the literature represents the sequence in which they were discovered rather than their relative positions on the quarter-plate. Please see the Production page for each subtype's plate position.

Subtype A
Podtyp A
The negative used to produce the plate carried flaw A in positions 4, 9, 54, and 59 on both plates. Flaw A occurs on Type I stamps. Flaw A is a break in the lower left side of the apple leaf, just below the inverted tulip on the left side of the stamp.
