The Jubilee Issue
Jubilejní 1919
The typographic Legionářské picturing the two-tailed Bohemian Lion were the lower denominitations of a combined issue and served to commemorate the first anniversary of the republic; they might better be called the First Jubilee Issue.
Typografické Legionářské známky zobrazují dvouocasého českého lva. Nižší hodnoty této kombinované emise vyšly k jednoročnímu výročí republiky, a tim by se spíše mohly nazývat „První Jubilejní Vydání“.

The higher denomination stamps, picturing a mother and child and bearing the legend "For the orphans", were the semi-postal part of the issue and are the true Legionářské. Because they are not typographically produced stamps, little more will be said of them here.
Vyšší nominální hodnoty této série, zobrazující matku s dítětem, a s nápisem „pro sirotky“, jsou druhou poštovní části emise a jsou „pravé“ Legionářské. Nejsou ražené knihtiskem (typograficky vyrobené), řekněme si zde trochu o nich.

Some philatelic writers want to change the name from the Legionářské misnomer to The Jubilee and Charity Issue of 1919. While this newer name does not sing, it is at least more representative of the intent of the combined issue. Almost ironic is the fact that the Legionářské stamps, intended for semi-postal use in support of the orphaned children of Legionnaires killed in the Great War, became philatelic orphans themselves. Valid for a single week in 1919 and for domestic use only (some do appear on refused foreign mail), the remainders were given as a grant-in-aid to the agency responsible for raising funds for those orphans. A series of mishandled and unofficial releases, overprints, perforations and other shenanigans gave these stamps an undeserved poor reputation in the philatelic world. Recently their standing has improved.
Někteří filatelisté by si dokonce přáli změnit název Legionářské na „Vydání Jubilejní a Dobročinné 1919“. Ironií osudu je, že tyto Legionářské známky, jejichž účelem bylo podporovat sirotky Legionářů padlích v první světové válce, se skoro stali sirotci. Platily pouze jeden týden a to v roce 1919 a byly jen pro domácí použití (ovšem, některé z nich nacházíme na odmítnutých dopisech do zahraničí). Přebytky z příplatků se vyplácely agentůře zodpovědné získávat prostředky pro tyto sirotky. Řada špatného zacházení, neoficiálních verzí přetisků, perforací a dalších nesmyslností dala této sérii nezaslouženě špatnou pověst ve filatelistickém světě. Ovšem, v poslední době jejich pověsť zlepšila.
All of the Legionářské were supposed to have been released in the same quantities — 5,000,000 — on the same day, October 28, 1919 and withdrawn from service a week later on November 3, 1919. There is evidence that the stamps were available to the public a day earlier, October 27, 1919 and they appear postmarked a day or so after their withdrawal.
Všechny Legionářské známky byly vydány ve stejném množství — 5 000 000 kusů — stejného dne, 28. října 1919 a vyřazené z provozu týden na to, 3 listopadu 1919. Existují důkazy, že tyto známky byly veřejnosti k dispozici již o den dříve, tedy 27. října 1919 a nacházejí se s razítkem den, nebo tak, i po jejich stažení.
