Hradčany 3 Haléře
The two plates used to print the 3h Hradčany went through at least three printings, beginning on December 19, 1918 and they were first sold to the public on December 21, 1918. Some 59,430,000 stamps were printed, of which 29,790,000 were actually released.
Many of the 3h stamps were overprinted so 1920 for use in Eastern Silesia or surcharged as postage due stamps. No 3h stamps were officially perforated, but a number of privately perforated panes exist.
Printing Matrices
The two 3h plates were initially placed tête-bêche in a printing matrix with plates for the 2h newspaper stamps on December 19, 1918. The plates were removed, cleaned, and replaced in a unidirectional alignment and printing resumed from December 22 until until December 29, 1918. The unidirectional placement continued for all subsequent printings.
A second printing, pairing the 3h with the Captioned Design 20h, ran from February 13 until February 17, 1919. A third and final printing occurred on April 8, 1919, when the 3h (with Plate II repaired) was paired with the 60h from the Circles Design.
