Hradčany 20 Haléřü
Some 103,840,000 imperforate and 5,780,000 perforated 20h stamps were produced. As with the 30h, the actual number of perforated stamps that reached the public must be estimated because of number reported with the so 1920 overprint was mixed in with the number of Abstract Design's 5h stamps, but is assumed that all perforated stamps were released. Nearly all of the imperforate stamps, 103, 123,000 were actually released. The first day of issue was December 20, 1918.
Printing Matrices
Four plates produced the 20 haléřů denomination during two printing periods. At the start of the first printing period, the 20h Plate I and Plate II were coupled with the Captioned Design's 25h plates in a tête-bêche arrangement on December 20, 1918. The 25h plates were removed and replaced by the Captioned Design's 30h plates for the period January 14 to January 21, 1919. Again, all the plates were in a tête-bêche layout.
The second printing went through three modifications, starting with the introduction of Plates III and IV. All four plates in a unidirectional layout were used in the same matrix from January 27 through February 4, 1919. Then the plates were separated and paired with other denominations to complete this printing. Plates III and IV were paired with the 3h plates (whose specific placement is not understood) for the period February 14 to February 17, 1919. For the final modification of the second printing, Plates I and II were again paired with the Captioned Design's 25h plates, this time in a unidirectional layout, from February 18 through February 23, 1919.
Note that Plates III and IV retained their relative positions for the entire second printing period. Plate I and II, on the other hand, while they remained on the right side of the matrix, were reversed in sequence.
