The Typographic Stamps of Czechoslovakia

Hradčany 200 Haléřü

7,960,000 imperforate and 5,900,000 perforated 200h stamps were produced, some 7,510,000 imperforate were released and approximately 4,187,000 of the perforated -- the exact number is not available because the number reported overprinted so 1920 did not distinguish between perforated and imperforate stamps. The stamps were released on January 10, 1919.

When the 200h and 500h were to be overprinted and surcharged with new values for airmail use, the control numbers were ground off the plates. That matrix was used in May of 1920. Those stamps without the airmail overprint and surcharge are quite scarce.

Printing Matrices

The two 200h Hradčany plates underwent not only rearrangement in the printing matrices, but one was physically altered in the end. The first printing arrangement coupled with the 100h plates, dated January 10 and January 11, 1919, as usual was in tête-bêche layout, but all subsequent layouts were unidirectional.

The second matrix arrangement, again with the 100h plates, was used January 15 through January 20, 1919 and again for a third printing on May 27, 1919. A day later, on May 28, 1919, the 200h Plate II was coupled to the 1000h plate to fill only half the matrix. A final, undated printing occurred somewhat later, this time in conjunction with the 25h postage due plates.
