Q: How is this site supposed to be used?
A: Each typographic issue has its own section, typically subdivided by denomination. Once you have reached the issue and denomination that interests you, the context menu on the left hand side can help you refine your search.
For instance, many of these sub-sections have full panes of stamps from each of its plates. Because of the size-limit of the scanner, they are shown one half of a pane at a time. Most sections also have images of each individual stamp. These may be reached by clicking the desired position on the plate-map page. There, every stamp (if available) from the same position on all plates may be found.
Some stamps have pages of special topics. In the instance of the 1920 Masaryk, details of the flaws repeated within each quarter pane are described.
Finally, when available, the literature associated with an issue or denomination may be read on-line. These books and articles, for the most part, are stored in a locked no-print format. Contact Knihtisk if you wish to buy any or all of the information in a printable form.
Q: What resources were used to support the information presented in this site?
A: First, the plating manuals found on the Literature page associated with each issue. Second, the Monografie Československých Známek which covers
the issues of the First Republic in four volumes. Finally, experience gathered from working with the stamps themselves, reading articles in journals, and having
conversations with other collectors.
Q: Is all the information correct?
A: One would hope so, but errors and misunderstandings do creep in from time to time. Sharp eyed surfers who do find errors, or have additional information they
believe will make the site more informative, complete, or attractive should contact the Knihtisk editor. Many collectors
have already provided information and scans that have made the site far more complete than any one collector might have on his own.
Q: When will all of the typographic stamps be represented?
A: There are two limiting factors. First, preparing and adding images and information to the site takes time and is an ongoing process. The site will grow over time.
Second, much of the material about the less commonly studied stamps remains un-translated or un-written, or Knihtisk has been refused permission to publish it.
Q: Can I contribute to the site?
A: Absolutely! Knihtisk is always on the lookout for needed or better images and articles related to the typographic stamps of Czechoslovakia. If you have an essay
or article you would like edited for your own use, published in electronic or paper format by
Knihtisk, or placed on the website, use the information on the
