Express Stamps

Like the Hradčany, the Express Stamp issue of 1919 was an Alfons Mucha design and incorporated many features of that better-known stamp: doves, a heart, linden leaves on branches, scrollwork and a wavy line, abstract edge decorations, and a special alphabet. An original feature, three small roses, appear in the lower panel of the stamp and the value tablet is colored rather than white. The proportions of the stamp also differed: the express stamps measured 27 x 19 mm and thus are much more oblong than the Hradčany.

Collectors may be interested in the various postal uses of the express stamp. In addition to express (special delivery) covers, the stamps were also used as regular postage and postage dues.
