Plate Identification
The manufacture of the plates is discussed under Production Details. As is described there, the galvanized plates were derived from copper matrices. Typically, the matrices bore no identification marks as those were added to the galvanized plates.
However, for the 5h, the 5Kč, and the 20Kč, the matrices themselves were pressed into temporary service and bear identifying marks. These latter matrices used as temporary plates also have screw holes along their edges so that they might be fastened to the printing forms on the presses. Note that the same plate identifier from the 5h matrix was transferred to both galvanized plates, so that panes for this denomination cannot be assigned to one plate or another. This anomaly does not occur in the other two cases (5Kč and 20Kč)
On the galvanized plates, an identifying two-digit year was usually placed in a special area reserved for it on the selvage above the stress bar and to the left of position 91. A sequence number appeared in a similar area to the right of position 100. The one exception were the first two plates for the 60h where the year and sequence numbers were in reversed positions. The second set of plates bore the same identifiers but in the normal order.
Of interest are the stress bars, used to level the plates, which appear as the imprint of ribbed lines at the top and bottom of each pane. Of note is the fact that the stress bars for the 1936 printing of the 1Kč did not break, as do the illustrations below, but continued through the vertical perforation holes in a solid line.
The identification year and sequence, as well as the stress bar imprints, are illustrated below.

*Both the Monografie (Volume IV, page 415) and Novotný (page 704) indicate that the numeral '1' in 28/1 for the 20Kč comes in two variations, but fail to explain why.
