1928 Postage Due
This second postage due issue was released in 1928 to end the flurry of provisional postage due stamps (the Hradčany and other regular issue stamps had been overprinted and surcharged with new values for this purpose) that replaced the original Mucha Postage Due issue.
The stamps were printed by The Czech Graphics Union and released in three waves. On February 1, 1928, the largest number of denominations were released: 10h, 40h, 50h, 60h, 1Kč, and the 2Kč. On March 29, 1928, several more values were released: 20h, 30h, 5Kč, 10Kč, and the 20Kč. Finally, on July 7, 1928, the last stamp in the series was released: the 5h. The stamps were withdrawn from sale on November 30, 1939 and became invalid on December 15, 1939. The haléřů values were printed in red, the korun in blue.
The design was by Josef Vlčka, but his name does not appear on the stamp. He submitted a drawing composed of the word ČESOSLOVENSKO at the top of the stamp and its use DOPLATNÉ at the bottom, both in panels with lined backgrounds. The central panel of the stamp consists of a large value tablet surrounded by stylized ornamentation: trefoils in each of the corners, each with a fruit and vine tendrils beneath it, and between them a stylized tulip fills out each side of the design.
